Superior Vena Cava Syndrome due to Thrombosis: A Rare Paraneoplastic Presentation of Bronchogenic Carcinoma
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is not an uncommon occurrence in patients with malignancy and it is often described as a medical emergency. In majority of the cases, SVC syndrome occurs due to mechanical obstruction of the SVC by extraluminal compression with primary intrathoracic malignancies. However, intraluminal obstruction due to thrombosis can also produce symptoms and signs of SVC synd...
متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Superior Vena Cava Syndrome Induced by Transvenous Permanent Pacemaker Implantation with Balloon Angioplasty
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a rare but potentially lethal complication of transvenous permanent pacemaker implantation. The pathogenesis is unclear, but thrombosis and fibrotic constriction of the vessels are believed to be responsible for this situation. Multiple, severed, and previously infected leads may increase the risk of SVC syndrome, but are not prerequisite for it. Anticoagula...

A 40-year old man with a history of surgically corrected congenital infundibular pulmonal stenosis and subvalvular membranous aortic stenosis presented with symptomatic sick sinus syndrome. Sick sinus syndrome may be related to stretching of the atrioventricular node and bundle of His, often a result of changed hemodynamics due to the underlying congenital disease. Implantation of a DDDR pacema...
متن کاملNon-small Cell Lung Cancer with Superior Vena Cava Syndrome Effectively Treated with Implantation of Intravascular Stent and Chemotherapy A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Superior vena cava syndrome is caused by obstruction of the superior vena cava due to a variety of malignant and benign entities. The most common malignant entities are lung cancer and mediastinal tumor. Conventional treatments include bypass surgery, external beam radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and medical treatment. In this report, we performed an intravascular metallic stent deployment and...
متن کاملSurgical management of superior vena cava syndrome following pacemaker lead infection: a case report and review of the literature
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a known but rare complication of pacemaker lead implantation, accounting for approximately less than 0.5% of cases. Its pathophysiology is due to either infection or endothelial mechanical stress, causing inflammation and fibrosis leading to thrombosis, and therefore stenosis of the SVC. Due to the various risks including thrombo-embolic complications and th...
